Woman and Youth of the Year

Congratulations to OLA’s Woman and Youth of the Year: Sarah Cash and Cara Granelli

Each year the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Woman hosts a Mass to honor the Woman and Youth of the Year for each parish throughout the Archdiocese of Atlanta. This year, due to COVID-19, the Mass has been canceled. Therefore, OLA’s Woman and Youth of the Year will be recognized at the March 14th 5:30pm Mass.

Congratulations to Sarah Cash, Woman of the Year, and Cara Granelli, Youth of the Year! Thank you for your service to our community and for the example of Christian service that you provide for us all!

SARAH CASH: WOMAN OF THE YEAR

This year Our Lady of the Assumption has named Sarah Cash our OLA Catholic Woman of the Year. Sarah serves our parish with love and compassion for all she comes into contact with and is a true example of faith in action. I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah while assigned to the same small faith group. It was truly God in action putting Sarah in my life.

Sarah serves OLA in many different capacities, including as Prime Timers Ministry Chair, member of the Ministry Commission. member of the Martha’s Ministry and member of a small faith group. She also serves as the OLA School Spiritual Life Committee Co-Chair and member of the Principal’s Advisory Council. Sarah takes on these roles with dedication and a willingness to serve our parish community and to live out her faith.

Several years ago, the ministry commission identified a need to serve those in our community who were over the age of 65, the Prime Timers. Serving the Prime Timers has become a passion for Sarah. She helps organize lunch and learns, dinners and outings all with love in her heart and a smile on her face. She deeply cares about those who she serves in this ministry and is a wonderful example of servant leadership. In addition, as a member of our small faith group she brings insightful dialogue and a thoughtfulness that benefit each member of our group.

Sarah lives in Brookhaven with her husband Audey and her two children, Aaron and Ainsley.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor. I could not be more proud to call you my friend and to learn from

your wonderful example.

CARA GRANELLI: YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Our Youth of the Year for 2021 is Cara Granelli! Cara has served our parish in a number

of ways over the past several years and we are very excited to give her this honor.

If you attend the 5:30 Mass on Sunday, it is very likely you have seen Cara serving as an Extraordinary Minister most weeks! She shows up consistently and is always ready to serve if needed. In addition to this, Cara has served as a Confirmation Teen Leader in the last two years where she has lead and walked with several of our teens as they prepare to be Confirmed. Cara also attends Youth Group, and is always a willing volunteer for any activities we have planned! She also stepped up when we needed her to serve as a small group leader for last year’s In His Steps Retreat at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, AL, where she did a lot to ensure that the retreat was a great experience for our younger participants!

Outside of OLA, Cara stays very involved as a Senior at St. Pius X High School! She is a member of the Swim Team, Spanish Club, Mu Alpha Theta Honors Society, and STAND Club.

Cara also serves as a Lion Leader and the manager for the Girls Soccer Team at SPX.

Outside of school, she is a Swim Coach and Lifeguard.

It’s been a joy getting to know and work with Cara. She’s been a great leader to the younger teens, and we will miss her when she graduates High School this Spring! She is not quite sure where she is going to college yet, but will decide between the University of Tennessee and Georgia College. .

Congratulations Cara! Thank you for serving our parish community well.. .

- Andrew Knuckles, Youth Minister
