Adult Faith Formation

The Faith Formation for Adults ministry supports growth in both human and Christian maturity, enriching the whole of life with the leaven of the Gospel, leading to a deeper  relationship with Jesus Christ and service to the poor and marginalized. The ministry engages all the faith dimensions of an adult life—for example, understanding and communicating the faith, skills needed for personal growth, the experience of family life, relationships, public service, and concern for the common good. Programs offered to adults include Scripture study groups, Small Christian Community discussion groups, various personal and spiritual growth courses, spiritual renewal and retreat programs, the adult conversion to Catholicism process, and many more.

The three major goals in adult faith formation are: 

  1. Invite and Enable Ongoing Conversion to Jesus in Holiness of Life;

  2. Promote and Support Active Membership in the Christian Community; 

  3. Call and Prepare Adults to Act as Disciples in Mission to the World.

Becoming Catholic:

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)

The RCIA is the communal process of spiritual and educational formation through which adults explore the Catholic Faith and become fully initiated members of the Roman Catholic Church.

 

RCIA is for adults wishing to become Catholic, Catholics who would like to complete the sacraments of initiation, and Catholics who want to learn more about their faith.

Bible Studies

Bible studies are offered as 6 week courses on various books of the Bible. Four 6-week courses are offered per year. Courses are offered on Sunday mornings from 10:15-11:15am in the Parish Library.

The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation

Reading the Bible should bring us closer to Christ, but understanding it is often difficult. The good news is that The Bible Timeline makes it easy. 

 

Presenter Jeff Cavins shows you how fourteen of the Bible’s narrative books tell the biblical story from beginning to end and gives you the keys to understanding the amazing story woven throughout Scripture. In this revolutionary approach to Bible study, The Bible Timeline divides the Bible into twelve color-coded time periods that make it easier to follow its narrative thread. Using a unique color-coded chart, you will learn the major people, places, and events of the Bible and discover how they all come together to reveal the remarkable story of our faith.

The Red Tent Book Study

Wednesdays starting June 1 at 8:30am in the Upper Room

 

OLA will be offering The Red Tent by Anita Diamant book study this summer. This book study will be on Wednesdays through June starting June 1. We will meet in the upper room at 8:30 to 10 am. Coffee and snacks will begin at 8 am after mass. All are welcome. Bring a friend to the study. The Red Tent is based on Genesis 34 Dinah, who is Jacob and Leah's only daughter. The scripture gives us one perspective on the life of Dinah where as the Red Tent dives deep into the life of women during this period. In this book study we will look deeper into the scripture, the history of women of this period, explore what a midrash is, address questions about God, relationships built and importance of storytelling. We will enjoy looking at a woman's perspective on the scripture.
