Prime Timers: Ministry Leaders Needed

We are looking for an individual leader or co-leaders to coordinate the Prime Timers Ministry (ministry for parishioners aged 65+). This very important ministry has been founded upon the pillars of Faith, Service, and Fellowship. The ministry leader’s role includes creating and executing a calendar that encompasses activities which build upon those 3 pillars. He/She does this through the following ways:

  • Plan for a theme/speaker for a monthly “Lunch and Learn” held in Upper Room

where members bring a bagged lunch and listen to a speaker or participate in a specific activity. Examples include learning about creating a will/funeral planning to assembling care packages for Mercy Care. Water and tea or lemonade are provided.

  • Plan one outing a month. Successful events in the past include trips to the symphony or to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, or drive around to see Christmas lights during the Christmas season.

  • Host a themed dinner, usually held in Moylan Hall, every 2 months. In the past, we have held a murder mystery dinner, dinner and a movie, and Kentucky Derby party and dinner.

  • The leader of this ministry also stays aware of and plans activities that include other parish ministries. For example, Prime Timers works with Parish Life to do a St. Patrick’s Day themed Bingo before St. Patrick’s Day. The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts may have badges of service to earn so you can collaborate on projects with them as well.
