Creation Care Ministry: OLA joins the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Laudato Si’ 2020 Initiative

In early May, Our Lady of Assumption parish and school community formally joined the 2020 cohort of the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Laudato Si’ initiative. Supporting Father Jim’s call to increase our collective community efforts and action on the Pope’s plea to “cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents,” OLA is one of 13 North Georgia Parishes/Schools to join the Archdiocese program.

The Archdiocesan Laudato Si’ initiative has 3 fundamental goals:

· Lessen our environmental impact

· Move toward zero waste

· Work toward social, economic and environmental justice

Inspired by Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical Care for Our Common Home (Laudato Si’) OLA’s Care for Creation Ministry’s mission is to inspire the OLA community to restore and preserve all of God’s creation through worship, education, and service. With the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Laudato Si’ action plan as our guide, we seek to live more sustainably in harmony with God’s creation and encourage our community to do so as well. The Care for Creation team invites all parishioners, students, and teachers to take part. We are excited about connecting with everyone at OLA to listen and learn about ways each ministry, group and organization would like to participate. Look for more information on the upcoming events and news in the OLA newsletter and on social media.
