Ash Wednesday: February 17

Although Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation you are encouraged to join us for Mass to begin your Lenten devotions. Ash Wednesday opens the season of Lent, a season of prayer and fasting as we prepare ourselves for the great celebration of Easter.

Ashes are sacramentals that serve as visible signs that help predispose our souls to Grace. They symbolize the dust from which God made us and are a reminder of the grief we feel over our sins that separate us from God. As we wear our ashes throughout the day they serve as a sign that we are committing ourselves to a life in Christ.

MASS TIMES: 7:30am, 12:15pm, and 7pm

LIVESTREAM MASS TIMES: 7:30am and 7pm

DISTRIBUTION OF ASHES. In this extraordinary year of pandemic, the Vatican has issued new directives for the distribution of Ashes. After the priest blesses the ashes and sprinkles them with Holy Water, he will turn to those assembled reciting “Turn away from sin, and be faithful to the Gospel” or another formula. Then, in silence, ashes will be sprinkled on the heads of each person.
